º£µé·¹Çð¿¡¼ µå¸³´Ï´Ù
Bethlehem University and Handong University signed a Memorandum of Understanding andanAcademic Exchange Agreement on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 11:00 in the Executive Conference Room. The general purpose of this agreement is to establish specific educational relations and cooperation between the two institutions in order to promote academic linkages to enrich the understanding of the culture of the two countries concerned, to promote collaborative research, other educational developments, and to further mutual understanding. The signing was done in the presence of Br. Robert Smith - Vice President for Academic Affairs and Mr. Chungnam Park - Representative of the Government of Korea in Ramallah, and Professor Youngjin Jim – Director of the Office of International Affairs at Handong University.
The guests were welcomed in the Executive Meeting room for the signing, during which speeches and good natured jokes were exchanged. Br. Robert presided the meeting, emphasizing that the pairing of these two universities can have very positive implications for the mutual benefit through knowledge exchange and other activities. Reverend John Yang - Head of the Korean Cultural Center in Bethlehem expressed his appreciation to the leadership of Bethlehem University for educating the youth in Palestine and also expressed appreciation for the guests who formed the Korean delegation and their wives. Pastor John also expressed how he believed that this signing was the first steps not only in their own plans but also a result of prayer and God¡¯s plan to bring the two universities together.
Many members of the Palestine - Korea Friendship and Cooperation Association attended the ceremony, including Dr. Qustandi Shomali - Bethlehem University and Tony Salman – Council member of Bethlehem Municipal Council. Also present was Mr. Ishaq Sahhar – Assistant Vice President for Development, Ms. Elsa Hazboun – HR Director, Mr. Issa Rishmawi, Sangback Lee – Representative of KOICA – Palestine, Dr. Jeong-Soo Oh – Professor of from Chungnam National University, Ms. Angela Abu Eita – Bethlehem University Communications Officer, Mr. Demitri Awwad – Bethlehem University Guest Relations Officer, and Lubnah Shomali – International Relations Officer of Beit Sahour Municipality.
The guests were given a tour of the campus including the Computer Center located in the Millenium Building, which was generously funded by the Korean people. Bethlehem University thanks our guests for their visit and their show of support and solidarity with Bethlehem University.
Handong Global University, located in Pohang, Korea, is a world-changing university educating honest and competent global leaders. It is home for those who aim to see the invisible and make a difference in the world. The name ¡°Handong¡± comprises of two Korean letters, which are ¡°Han¡± meaning ¡°Korea¡± and ¡°Dong¡± meaning ¡°East.¡± Since Handong opened its door in 1995, it has played a significant role in educating students in the eastern region of Korea. Handong especially emphasizes leadership development, character training and academic excellence.
